Who do you say Jesus is?
Some people say Jesus was a good teacher, some say he was a prophet, some say he was just a good man. But who do you say he is? That’s the question that Jesus asked Simon Peter one day, “But what about you? Who do you say I am?” - Matthew 16:15 Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus then told Peter that man had not revealed it to him, but God did. Jesus then said that he would build his church of people who, like Peter, know that Jesus is the Messiah because God has revealed it to them.
The evidence that Jesus is the Messiah is insurmountable. There is more evidence that Jesus is the Messiah than there is that Columbus came to America or that George Washington was our first president. No other record in history has been scrutinized by more scholars. No other name in history is better known than Jesus’ and no other symbol is better recognized than the cross. There are countless irrefutable proofs that Jesus was the God-man, the Messiah, but all the proof in the world will not convince you of that truth, only God can do that.
When you decide to seek God with all your heart, all your mind, all your soul, and with all your ability, you will find Him. - Deuteronomy 4:29
When you encounter God you will know his love and acceptance but at the same time you will have a sense of inadequacy knowing that you have done things that you knew were wrong-we all do. That’s because we are sinners, and God is perfect and holy. “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23. And the penalty for sin is death. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.” -Romans 3:23. You will sense the call of God to repent. That is simply to stop living your life your way and begin to live the way that God intended for you to live. “Repent for the kingdom of heaven is near.” - Matthew 4:17
Salvation is a free gift from God. We can do nothing to earn it. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works so that no one can boast.” - Ephesians 2:8-9. But no one can give you a gift if you refuse to accept it!
Jesus never sinned, but he paid the penalty for our sin. He was the wisest man who ever lived, the creator of the universe and the author of our faith. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross and rose from the dead. The carpenter from Nazareth was a way-maker. He built a way for you to know God and receive the free gift of eternal life. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”-John 3:16
The high price for your salvation has been paid. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners Christ died for us.”-Romans 5:8. God’s provision for you is so enormous that to reject it is the only unforgivable sin. We chose to rebel against God and become sinners. We are free to choose God’s plan for our salvation or not. Those who reject God and choose to continue in sin will be found forever beyond the love and grace and glory of our Awesome Holy God in a place called Hell.
Jesus accomplished the one thing he came to do-to save humanity from its fallen sinful state-and he did it perfectly. Jesus made the way, the rest is up to you. You are not far from God and his salvation. Jesus is calling your name and standing outside the door of your heart knocking. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me.” - Revelation 3:20
Let Him in!
Jesus has a question for you right now: “Who do you say that I am?”
